Inside the MODE Eco Mood Hotel in Rimini, a project that experiments with new models of sustainable hospitality through the contribution of several Italian architecture firms, outdoor spaces represent a fundamental component of the hotel’s identity. Conceived as places for meeting and relating with the landscape, they define a natural continuity between architecture, greenery and well-being, transforming the outdoor area into a living and welcoming extension of the stay experience.

In this context takes shape Green Is the New Black, the project designed by Rizoma Architecture that reinterprets the hotel’s outdoor landscape with a vision oriented toward sustainability, regeneration and comfort. The building envelope is rethought to improve energy performance, integrate renewable sources and offer effective protection from atmospheric agents. “Truly applying the principles of sustainability means choosing intelligent solutions from the very beginning,” observes Giovanni Franceschelli of Rizoma Architecture, underlining the importance of reliable, durable materials consistent with the project’s environmental goals.

It is in this direction that the choice of Lea Ceramiche surfaces fits in, playing a decisive role in defining the outdoor spaces. The 20 mm thick porcelain stoneware Masterpiece Sand outlines pathways, rest areas and connection zones between the different parts of the hotel, building a coherent and time-resistant material language. Its natural texture dialogues with the vegetation and with the architectural lines of the building, becoming the backdrop that supports and enhances the entire outdoor landscape.

The combined use of different installation techniques – glued installation on surfaces closer to the building and raised installation on gravel in areas in contact with greenery and the swimming pool – highlights the flexibility of the collection and enhances its performance in terms of drainage, stability and maintenance.

The spaces designed by Rizoma Architecture integrate vegetation, light and material in a measured balance, creating an immersive environment that evolves over the course of the hours and seasons. The lighting, designed to reduce light pollution and improve the perceptual quality of the outdoor areas, helps define unexpected atmospheres, making the exteriors an integral part of the identity of the MODE Eco Mood Hotel. The project has also generated great interest in the trade press, which has highlighted its ability to combine aesthetics, sustainability and a new way of interpreting outdoor spaces in the hospitality sector.

The result is a contemporary architectural landscape, where Lea Ceramiche surfaces are not only a high-performance material, but an element that builds meaning, character and continuity: a material capable of translating the hotel’s sustainable vision into a concrete, everyday experience.
